Pilgrimages to Archbishop Sheen’s beatification include Chesterton Academy in Stillwater

An anonymous donor funded a trip for school leaders and students to attend Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen’s beatification Mass in St. Louis on September 24. Eileen Douglass, head of school at the high school, invited thirty-nine students from grades nine through twelve, accompanied by eleven adults. Students left two days prior to the Mass and attended a conference regarding Archbishop Sheen’s life and ministry the day before. The drive home included a stop at Our Lady of Guadalupe Shrine in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Other participants included 102 seminarians from The St. Paul Seminary, with most able to travel. The Center for Mission also sponsored a pilgrimage of 45 men and women, including participants from various locations, such as Fargo, North Dakota, Green Bay, Wisconsin, and even priests from the Diocese of Kitui in Kenya. Junior Pablo Martinez Hernandez participated in the trip and reported feeling inspired by the experience. The opportunity led to students learning about Archbishop Sheen’s devotion to Eucharistic adoration and reinforced a commitment at Chesterton Academy to offer a Holy Hour daily during school hours, led by students.
